Lilah's Arrangement

Posted by Henry (Fall River, United States) on 10 July 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

I've been working on a series called "Gifts from the Sea" for some time now. I enjoy photographing seashells because of the way they catch light and because of their interesting textures. This means I have lots of shells around the house.

I also have two young daughters aged 4 and 2, and they have busy hands and curious dispositions. One day, Lilah my youngest took three of the shells I have on a small shelf and turned them upside down. The result, was something totally different than I had previously considered. So I decided to shoot those three shells.

Now, I'm doing a vertical presentation of her horizontal arrangement, but the essence is still there. I love having kids around. Picasso was right.
