Bicycle with Flowers

Posted by Henry (Fall River, United States) on 21 March 2008 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

Nantucket has an annual daffodil festival. The islanders decorate everything with the the hundreds of thousands of daffodils that grow on the island. There are children's parades of bicycles decorated with the flower and even a large parade of antique cars decorated with the flower.

I took this shot on Main Street. It took a lot of waiting to get an unpeopled shot. The downside were the hard shadows that are in the shot. I tried several things to get the bike and flowers to pop from the background but each time the hard shadows complicated the image. Finally, I decided to sepia tone the image and leave the bike and flowers in color. I like the resulting shot, but I'm not a big fan of the process. It tends to get overdone.
